Vietnam Visa for Europeans
For European citizens who want to stay in Vietnam longer than 45 days or who are not eligible for visa exemption, Vietnam visa on arrival and Vietnam evisa are the best choices. The most popular and convenient way is the Vietnam e-visa, which allows travelers to stay for up to 90 days with single or multiple entries. Some travelers may still wish to apply for a Vietnam visa on arrival, though this is accepted at airports and usually requires an approval letter before boarding, making it less convenient than the e-visa.
How to Apply for a Vietnam E-Visa
The Vietnam e-visa application process is simple and entirely online. Before submitting, applicants need to prepare a valid passport, digital passport-style photos, an email address, and a bank card for the application fee.
The official application is submitted through the government’s portal https://evisa.gov.vn/, where applicants must provide personal data, travel plans, intended entry points, and proof of accommodation in Vietnam.
After paying the processing fee, applicants typically receive their Vietnam e-visa (if approved) within 03 to 05 working days, although processing can take longer during national holidays or peak travel periods. The evisa will be sent as a PDF file to the registered email which must be printed (black and white are ok) and presented upon arrival in Vietnam.
