A-Z details of Vietnam Visa on Arrival (VOA) – Newly updated!

Important information before you travel

A Vietnam Visa on Arrival is not a walk-in visa that you can request after landing without making arrangements in advance.

Before boarding your flight to Vietnam, you must have an official visa approval document confirming that you are permitted to collect your visa at the designated Vietnam airport. Without this approval, you will be refused boarding or unable to obtain a visa after arrival.

For most independent tourists and short-term business travelers, a Vietnam eVisa is now the simpler and more suitable option. Visa on Arrival is generally reserved for eligible cases that have been reviewed and approved in advance.

Not sure which visa option is suitable for you?
Send us your nationality, arrival date, arrival airport and passport copy. Our Vietnam-based team will review your case and advise whether you should apply for an eVisa or request pre-approved Visa on Arrival assistance.

Vietnam visa on arrival

What is a Vietnam Visa on Arrival?

Vietnam Visa on Arrival, commonly abbreviated as VOA, is a visa that is physically issued at a Vietnam international airport after the traveler has received prior authorization from the competent Vietnamese authority.

The approval document is not the final visa. It only authorizes the traveler to receive the actual visa at the checkpoint stated in the approval.

You must obtain this visa approval letter (sample below) before departing for Vietnam.

Two Types of VOA

  • Tourist VOA: for short-term leisure visits, this visa is available to all nationalities for stays of 15 to 30 days, with single entry and no extension option.
  • Business VOA: for professionals requiring longer stays, this visa is valid for up to 3 months with single or multiple entry options and is extendable once. It requires sponsorship from a Vietnamese company.

Simple Requirements for VOA Application

To apply for a Vietnam VOA, you’ll need:

  • A passport valid for at least 06 months from your arrival date, with at least 02 blank pages;
  • A passport-style photograph (white background, without glasses);
  • A photo of the passport information page;
  • A method for online payment, such as a credit or debit card;

Frequently Asked Questions

No, you don't have to enter Vietnam exactly on the arrival date listed on your Vietnam eVisa. Your Vietnam eVisa is valid from the start date to the end date clearly stated in the approval document. You can enter Vietnam at any time within this period. Example: If your Vietnam eVisa validity is from 1 May 2025 to 1 June 2025 (single entry), you can enter Vietnam anytime starting from 1 May 2025. However, you cannot enter before 1 May, and you must leave Vietnam on or before 1 June 2025.
Yes, you can. Vietnam eVisa holders can enter and exit through international checkpoints approved by the Vietnamese Government for eVisa use. As of 2026, there are 83 approved eVisa checkpoints, including airports, land border gates, and seaports. When applying, you are asked to provide your intended entry and exit checkpoints. If your travel plans later change, make sure the new airport, land border, or seaport is on the current approved eVisa checkpoint list before you travel. For example, if you originally selected Hanoi Airport (HAN) but later change your flight to Ho Chi Minh City Airport (SGN), that is perfectly fine as both are approved eVisa entry points. If you are unsure, contact us before departure. Note: make sure you enter within the validity dates shown on your Vietnam eVisa.
All personal details on your Vietnam eVisa must exactly match the information in your passport. Even a small error, such as a single incorrect letter or number, will render your visa invalid. In such cases, immigration officers may deny you entry into Vietnam. Unfortunately, Vietnam eVisas cannot be corrected or amended once issued. If there is any incorrect information on your Vietnam eVisa, you will need to apply for a new visa. We strongly recommend double-checking all your details before submission to avoid delays or complications.
It is advisable to initiate your Vietnamese eVisa application at least two weeks before your intended travel date to ensure a smooth and timely process.
For eligible cases, we may be able to support emergency processing in as fast as 2 working hours, subject to document readiness and case eligibility. Please contact us immediately via WhatsApp for the fastest assistance.
