Understanding the Vietnam Exit Visa

The Vietnam Exit Visa, issued by the Vietnam Immigration Department, serves as the crucial travel document that permits its holder to depart Vietnam. Typically, this visa is valid for a duration of 15 days from the date of issuance, with a processing time of 5 to 7 working days. The cost of obtaining an exit visa may vary.

Securing a Vietnam Exit Visa

  1. Exit Visa for Foreign Babies Born in Vietnam: If your child holds foreign citizenship and was born in Vietnam without an entry visa, follow these steps to obtain the necessary exit visa:
    • Legalize your baby’s Birth Certificate through the embassy, translate it into Vietnamese, and have it notarized as required.
    • Complete the NA5 form.
    • Assemble the following documents: the completed NA5 form, the child’s original Delivery Verification (issued by the hospital), legalized, translated, and notarized Birth Certificate, and the original passports and valid visas, residence cards, or work permits of the parents.
    • Submit these documents to the Vietnam Immigration Department at one of the following locations:
      • Hanoi: No. 44-46 Tran Phu Str., Ba Dinh Dist., Hanoi, Vietnam.
      • Da Nang: 7 Tran Quy Cap Str., Da Nang city.
      • HCMC: 333-335-337 Nguyen Trai, Nguyen Cu Trinh Ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.
    • After 5 to 7 working days, you will receive the exit visa, allowing you and your child to leave Vietnam without complications.
  2. Exit Visa for Those with Expired Visas

Staying in Vietnam with an expired visa is not advisable, as it may result in overstay fines and potential inclusion in the Vietnam Immigration Blacklist. To obtain an exit visa in this scenario:

    • Contact us or visit the Vietnam Immigration Department to submit your documents, including your valid passport and the exit visa application form NA5.
    • Pay the exit visa fees.
    • Receive your passport with a new exit visa.

Be sure to check the due date of your exit visa and complete all necessary procedures, including any visa overstay fines.

      3. Exit Visa for Lost or Damaged Passports

Securing an exit visa in case of a lost or damaged passport is a more complex process:

    • Report the loss or damage at the nearest police station to obtain a police report, which is essential for initiating the passport replacement and exit visa process.
    • Visit your country’s embassy or consulate in Vietnam with the police report, passport photos, and the local currency required for a new travel document.
    • Once you have the temporary passport from your embassy, visit the Vietnam Immigration Department with the following documents: the original and a copy of the police report, a copy of your old passport and visa (if available), your new travel document issued by your embassy, the NA5 form, and cash to cover the exit visa fees.
    • Complete the Form NA5 at the office, wait for your turn, and allow them to process your new visa application.
    • Pay the Vietnam exit visa application fees.
    • Retrieve your new passport and visa on the specified date.
